About us
A changing ocean
In the present context of climate change and resources scarcity, LabexMER tackles key questions about our changing ocean:
- The global ocean as a regulator of the earth climate but also potentially a vector of change through instability of the global cycles (energetics, biogeochemistry, CO2 absorption).
- The deep ocean, yet unexplored, with its extreme environments and active geological, chemical and geo-biological processes;
- The coastal ocean, a complex interface, source of emerging scientific questions; a fragile environment subject to growing anthropic pressure and conflicts of use.
LabexMER gathers scientists from different laboratories and disciplines. Most laboratories are located in Brest, Brittany. Others are located in southern Brittany and in Nantes.
The European Institute of Marine studies (IUEM) is the scientific coordinator of LabexMER.
